The Folsom Lake College Pride Nest strives to build and foster a program that offers a welcoming, safe hang-out and learning environment that prioritizes love, compassion, and safety. We work to facilitate and support opportunities that cultivate the development of students, staff, and faculty through leadership, self-love, self-acceptance, and advocacy. We come together to promote ongoing coordination and collaboration among LGBTQ+ serving organizations and to guide students on the path to successful graduation from college.
"Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we'll ever do." -Brené Brown
A safe, educational environment where students, staff, and faculty can be their true selves with no judgment. An environment and program where love and compassion are the foundation and at the forefront. A program where we position our students, staff, and faculty to achieve their greatest academic, professional, and personal successes.
Love
We create a culture where actions are rooted in love. We support those who are in crisis and in need. We develop a program and team that comes together and has passion for creating and making a difference in the lives of our community and education. We make time for ourselves and address our own needs and development.
Diversity and Inclusivity
We embrace what each person or group brings to the Pride Nest. We are made up of the perspectives and experiences of many. Vulnerability: We recognize the courage and bravery that it takes to be open about our identities, experiences, beliefs, and differences. We will ensure that everyone feels safe and that they belong here. We take assertive action whenever necessary.
Innovation
We continually look to innovate and improve programming and services for the Pride Center. We collaborate with the college, district, and with external partners to create a campus where LGBTQ+ people and marginalized communities shine.
Integrity
We operate to uphold the mission of Folsom Lake College, the Equity Center, and of the Pride Nest. We honor and apply our values in our actions and actively look for improvements in the work we do.
Eli Smith
Eli is a current FLC student is excited to join the Folsom Lake College Staff as their new LGBTQ+ Student Personnel Assistant/Pride Nest Lead. With a strong background in LGBTQIA+ community organizing, Eli is excited to bring his lived and professional experience to Folsom Lake College. He has spent many years as a volunteer and staff member at The Sacramento LGBT Community Center assisting and leading programming to create an environment where LGBTQIA+ people can be their true selves. Most recently, he was tasked with developing the community engagement program, where he had the opportunity to lead college-level internships and a volunteer program that was critical to the support of the community during the COVID-19 Pandemic and Sacramento Pride's success.
Eli's transition and passion to working in higher education is driven by his late uncle Dr. Tim Larrabee. Tim was an educator at heart who consistently advocated for the LGBTQ+ community in education. As a dean and professor at Oakland University's School of Education, he was thoughtful in driving initiatives that better supported the LGBTQIA+ campus community.
This opportunity and position is very special as Eli is able to do it in honor of his uncle and continue to make FLC a place where LGBTQ+ people can thrive and succeed. Eli is pursuing his undergraduate degree in public relations and plans to do his graduate work in higher education.
During his free time, you can find Eli exploring the city, finding new things to cook, working out, and being a couch potato. He currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Folsom High School Athletic Boosters and is on the Sacramento Pride Planning Committee Leadership Team.
Ezykeil Lopez
Ezykeil is a Filipino American FLC student and soon to be UC Davis transfer who majors in Entomology. He hopes to continue the rest of his education and career as an Entomologist specializing in research and taxonomy. Throughout his time in FLC, Zeke has honored his studentship through QSA’s (Queer Straight Alliance) Instagram and club events, adamant participation in APIDA (Asian Pacific Islander Desi Americans), and as a new employee of Pride Nest as Student Leader. Throughout his educational career, Ezykeil has consistently interacted and participated in his community as an EGUSD (Elk Grove Unified School District) Student Equity leader and as a performer/community service participant in a Filipino American Youth Association. As a member of the Equity Center, Zeke wants to be able to provide a space that is safe and comfortable for others in hopes of providing others with what he could not have in the past.
Outside of work, Ezykeil dedicates much of his down time to the critters he has at home; putting much love and care into the wellbeing of his insects and reptiles despite his busy schedule. His experience with exotic captive animals has allowed him to advance his knowledge in ecosystems, terrarium making, and pet care. Because of this, a lot of his interests revolve around the beauty of natural processes and sciences. Along with nature, Ezykeil also holds a great appreciation in art and niche areas of media; oftentimes jumping from hobby to hobby to fulfill his curiosities and need to learn.
This curiosity not only includes the natural world, but it also enhances his interactions with the social world. Ezykeil will always enjoy socializing with new people and meeting different communities to widen his perspectives on the unification of people. With his willingness to find and provide a space, both the Equity Center and Pride Nest have allowed him to discover opportunities he would not be able to get anywhere else. His excitement for the future with the Equity Center and Pride Nest is immeasurable, making his first job at FLC just as rewarding.

Interested in Joining Our Community?
Please fill this form out if you are interested in joining our Pride Nest Community! Why should I join? You will be kept up-to-date with our latest programming and initiatives here on campus and around the Los Rios Community College District! This will also give you the chance to join many LGBTQIA+ community events in the greater Sacramento area! This will also help our team guide you to resources and services to help aid in your college and personal life success.
You may be wondering why we ask some of the questions listed in this interest form. At the Pride Nest, we value every last community member's right to privacy and strive to uphold our systems to reflect that. We capture this information primarily so that when staff reach out, they understand the identity of the individual and offer them the utmost level of respect. We also use some information for grant reporting to the funders of our programs. We do so anonymously, by keeping names out of all data reports and reporting data in batch records. For example, we will tell a funder we helped 30 community members that lived in the 95630 zip code, but nothing more about the individuals. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to the Pride Nest Program Lead, Eli Smith (he/him/his) at SmithE@flc.losrios.edu.
Los Rios Pride Center's Statement of LGBTQ+ Student Support: ARC, CRC, FLC, SCC Pride Center Statement of Support for LGBTQIA+ Community
The staff and faculty in the Pride Centers across Los Rios Community College District are deeply troubled by the recent Executive Order that denies recognition of gender identities beyond the binary of male and female sex assigned at birth. This action attempts to erase the existence and human rights of transgender and non-binary individuals, creating significant barriers to travel, healthcare access, and basic acknowledgment of identity. Additional orders attacking the rights of immigrants and asylum seekers, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, and protections against sex discrimination further threaten the well-being of vulnerable LGBTQIA+ populations.
While the constitutionality of these orders is questionable, they have already sparked fear and anxiety among community members. We want to reassure our community — our centers’ doors remain open, and our resolve to serve and uplift our diverse LGBTQIA+ community remains unshaken. Together, we are strong. Together, we will endure. Together, we will support students while they complete their educational journeys to improve their lives during and after their time at Los Rios.
