What is Accreditation?
Accreditation is a system of peer-review in which educational institutions are held responsible for a set of requirements and standards to ensure the quality of education provided to students. "The purposes of regional accreditation include encouraging institutions to improve academic quality, institutional effectiveness, and, ultimately, student success." Accreditation Cycles & Documentation
FLC will undergo a comprehensive review for the reaffirmation of accreditation in 2022. The review will follow a formative/summative model and will take place in two portions. First, there will be a review of the college's Institutional Self-Evaluation Report (ISER) that the college has prepared to show how it meets the expectations for accreditation. Following this initial review, the review team will compile a set of Core Inquiries for the college, which highlight areas in the ISER that require clarification or expansion and are used to develop both recommendations and commendations for the College. Second, there will be a Focused Site Visit for the review team to gather additional information via interviews, data requests, and meetings to discuss the Core Inquiries. The Team ISER Review and Focused Site Visit will inform the review team’s report. This will be reviewed by the commission to direct the decision on the college’s reaffirmation.
FLC’s review will take place during the following timeframes:
- Team ISER Review: February 17, 2022
- Focused Site Visit: October 11-13, 2022
As part of the Focused Site Visit by the peer review team from Tuesday, October 11 through Thursday, October 13, all members of the college community are invited to attend the following events:
- All College Open Forum with Visiting Team: Wednesday, October 12, 3:00 to 4:00 pm, Main Folsom campus, Community Room (Aspen Hall FL1-20)
- Visiting Team Exit Report: Thursday, October 13, 10:00 to 10:30 am, Main Folsom campus, Community Room (Aspen Hall FL1-20)
Any member of the college community or public may submit a third-party comment by completing the Commission’s online third-party comment form. A third-party comment assists the Commission as it considers applications for candidacy, accreditation, or reaffirmation of accreditation.
