Any student currently enrolled at FLC in the subject for which they are seeking tutoring.
Yes, you are allowed to reschedule up to a maximum of three times in one week.
We train our tutors to treat all students with respect regardless of what the student brings to the tutoring session. Please show your tutor respect also.
- Trust their knowledge. Although they might not know every aspect of the class, and they might make mistakes sometimes, your tutor has earned a high grade in the tutoring subject and they have helpful information to share.
- Be patient with the tutor’s methods. The tutor might use tutoring methods that you find unexpected or unfamiliar. Please be patient and willing to try these methods. If, after trying the method, you still don’t understand, you can ask your tutor to try explaining things in a different way. If a tutor is not a good fit for you, you can schedule your next appointment with a different tutor.
- Please avoid offensive language and/or images visible during your tutoring session.
Although most tutoring sessions occur without any problems, sometimes tutoring sessions are cancelled. We always try to contact you directly if your session has been cancelled. If your session has been cancelled, but we don’t contact you, please contact us to let us know. Here are some reasons why a session might be cancelled:
- The tutor missed work due to an emergency situation.
- Technical issues prevented the ConferZoom session from working properly.
- The student had missed many previous sessions, and did not contact us, so we gave the session to another student.
- The student was more than 10 minutes late to the session.
- The student treated a tutor poorly and the tutor did not feel comfortable continuing to tutor the student.
You can hold two booked sessions at a time. Once one session is over, you can book a new one for the same day or another day.
Appointment confirmation emails and zoom links for your tutoring sessions will be sent to the email that you used to make your appointment. You must check that email and open the link in order to access your sessions. If you can’t find that email, please check your junk/spam folder. If you need additional help, email us at tutoring@flc.losrios.edu or call/text (279) 356 1828.
In some cases it is possible to extend a session while you are in the session. If you want to extend the session, ask your tutor.
You may attend up to 1.5 hours of tutoring each day that online tutoring is available.
If you are more than 10 minutes late to a session, the session will be counted as a no-show and the tutor will end the session. If you have two no-shows in one week or five in one semester, you will be placed on “tutoring probation”. You will be required to meet with the tutoring front desk before you will be allowed to schedule another session.
Yes, you can share your zoom link with your classmate and you can each join from your own computer or device.
- Try to find a distraction-free location for your online tutoring session.
- Before your tutoring session, make a plan for what you would like to go over with your tutor. This will help you make the most of your time.
Log into your tutoring session early. If you are more than 5 minutes late, your tutor will assume that you do not plan to attend and will close the session.
If you are unable to attend a session, please cancel it online. Our tutors’ time is valuable and other students might want the appointment.
You will have to use Zoom on your phone, tablet, laptop, or other device in order to participate in an online tutoring session. If you aren’t able to use video that’s okay, but you will have to be able to receive the tutor’s video and/or audio.
Be prepared to do work in the tutoring session. Your tutor will give you examples, guidance, hints, etc., but they will not do your work for you (if they did, you wouldn’t learn!)
Some tutors are professors, but most tutors are students who earned top grades and a professor recommended them to be a tutor. There might be some topics that a tutor can’t help you with. If they don’t understand your assignment, they will refer you to someone else who might be able to help.
The best way is to simply set up another tutoring session with them! If your tutor is a professor or a college employee, they might provide you with their professional contact information. Most of our tutors are other students; if your tutor is a student, please respect their privacy and do not try to get their personal information such as email or phone number.
Tutors care about you, but their specialty is academics. Please refrain from off-topic sensitive discussions about personal beliefs. If you need other help, you can contact Student Support Services. If you are in an emergency situation and you need help, call 9-1-1 or contact campus police.
We hire new tutors each semester. Please visit Become a Tutor for more information about applying.
