2022 Commencement Ceremony

Note: The in-person ceremony is contingent upon the continued decrease in COVID-19 cases in the region. Should we see another COVID surge, we will consider moving the graduation to a curbside event.

Graduate FAQs

Who can participate in this celebration?

This celebration is for the Class of 2022. Only confirmed graduates receiving an associate degree with a Summer 2021 or Fall 2021 graduation date, and those who have petitioned to graduate with an expected graduation date of Spring 2022 will be allowed to RSVP and attend the event.

Members of the Classes of 2020 and 2021 may not participate as they were honored during a special Curbside Commencement event in May 2021.

How do I sign-up/RSVP to participate?

The RSVP form was sent via email on April 18, 2022 to Summer 2021 and Fall 2021 graduates and Spring 2022 prospective graduates who submitted a graduation petition by the deadline date. Please check your student email and possibly the junk mail folder. In addition, confirmed and prospective graduates can RSVP by clicking on the button below.

Students must RSVP by Friday, May 6 at 5:00 pm to participate.

RSVP TO PARTICIPATE IN COMMENCEMENT

Will tickets be required?

No - tickets will not be required for guests. Guest seating will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Gates will open for guest seating at 5:00 pm - view map. No early entrance to the venue is allowed.

Where do I purchase my cap, gown, and tassel?

In order to participate in the ceremony, graduates and candidates must be in full regalia - including a teal cap, teal gown, and teal/black tassel. Regalia is available for purchase at the FLC Bookstore. The bundle price (cap and gown) is $36.64 including tax - FLC will provide the tassel to you as a gift at no charge, when you check-in for the Commencement Ceremony on May 18.

Students who are unable to visit the Bookstore in person can also purchase their regalia over the phone (see information below) and have their regalia shipped to them at no additional charge (must place order no later than Wednesday, May 11 to ensure time for delivery).

On the day of the Commencement Ceremony, the FLC Bookstore will be open until 5:00pm. Extra caps and gowns will NOT be available at the ceremony. You must be in your cap and gown when you check in for the ceremony.

Shoes
As the event is outside, will require a walk from the Gym to reach the ceremony site, and will take place on our grass track field, we advise that you choose your footwear accordingly.

How can I be the ceremony's featured student speaker?

All members of Folsom Lake College's graduating class of 2022 are invited to try out to be the featured student speaker at the Commencement Ceremony on Wednesday, May 18.

If you would like to be considered as the student speaker at Commencement, please complete this form by Friday, April 29. Student Life Supervisor Tony Humphreys will send a confirmation email shortly after with additional information on tryouts.

Interested candidates are asked to compose a speech that is:

  • Six to eight minutes long
  • Both positive and celebratory in nature, and
  • Highlights your personal story and journey to graduation

Candidates will deliver their speeches before a review committee consisting of students, faculty, and staff on Friday, May 6 (time to be determined). The committee will score the speeches and the candidate with the highest score will be invited to share their speech at the 2022 Commencement Ceremony.

When and where do graduates check in for the ceremony?

Graduates must check in between 4:00 to 5:00 pm inside the FLC Spectator Gym in the Gymnasium Building - view map.

You must be in the FLC Spectator Gym by 5:00 pm to be checked in and participate in the rehearsal prior to the ceremony. There will be staff on hand to assist you as you line up to walk to the Track. During this time you will be instructed on entering and exiting the ceremony area, receiving your diploma cover on the stage, proper tassel placement, and seating arrangements. Graduates will be lined up by 5:45 pm.

The ceremony will begin promptly at 6:00 pm.

Note: Guest seating will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Gates will open for guest seating at 5:00 pm. No early entrance to the venue is allowed.

What accommodations are available for students with disabilities?

Parking
There will be a designated disabled parking lot located next to the Gymnasium building near the Scholar Way entrance - view map. Your vehicle must display a valid disabled permit/placard to park in this lot. In addition, there are designated disabled parking (blue spaces) located in all parking lots around the campus.

Accessible Seating/Other Accommodations
The FLC Athletics Track is accessible to graduates and guests with special needs, including those in wheelchairs or with limited mobility. Sign language interpreters will also be available. Students who are participating in the Commencement Ceremony can indicate whether they or their guests will require additional accommodations when they complete the RSVP form. (RSVP form is sent to participating students by email.)

Can my child or other family member sit with me or walk with me during the ceremony?

No. Guests are not allowed in the graduate check-in area or graduate seating area for the ceremony.

Are cell phones, noisemakers, etc. allowed?

To be courteous to all graduates and guests, please turn off or silence all cell phones, pagers, and electronic watches before the ceremony begins.

Also, please no noisemakers, blow horns, balloons, inflatable balls, or signs that will obstruct the view of others.

Will there be a photographer?

A professional photographer will be taking photos of each graduate as they accept their diploma and when they leave the stage (you will receive information upon check-in in the Gym). There also will be self-serve photo booths available for graduates and guests to take photos free of charge after the ceremony.

When will the ceremony be over?

The ceremony should wrap up by 8:00 pm. Please consider making reservations for a late lunch/early dinner prior to the ceremony, or meeting with your family and friends for a post-ceremony celebration.

Note: Our community partner restaurants, Mas Taco Bar and Iron Horse Tavern (both located down the street from the campus in the Palladio Shopping Center off E. Bidwell St.), will be donating 20% of proceeds from sales from students and their families that day to the Los Rios Colleges Foundation to support FLC student scholarships. Make sure you tell them you are there for FLC Commencement - and thank you for your support!

What is Honors/Highest Honors designation at graduation?

This designation is based on the student’s cumulative graduation GPA. 

For cumulative GPAs of 3.00 to 3.49, “Honors” will be the designation
For GPAs of 3.50 and higher, “Highest Honors” will be the designation

Please Note: Spring 2022 candidates will not receive this designation in the printed program, as spring semester grades will not be posted until a later date. Honors/Highest Honors designation is also posted to students’ transcripts at the time that degrees are awarded.

When will I receive my diploma?

Summer 2021 and Fall 2021 Graduates
Diplomas have already been mailed to all 2021 graduates. You will receive a diploma cover when your name is read as you cross the stage at the ceremony.

Spring 2022 Degree Candidates
You will not receive your diploma at the commencement ceremony; however, you will receive a diploma cover. After grades for the spring semester have been posted in early June, the evaluations department will conduct final evaluations, followed by the posting of the degree on the transcript and printing of diplomas. This is a lengthy process with many petitions to evaluate. Degree posting will occur by the end of July and your diploma will be ready by mid to late September.

Have you had a recent address change? Notify the FLC Evaluations department to ensure correct delivery of your diploma by emailing evaluations@flc.losrios.edu.

Diploma Covers
Diploma Covers are only available to those students participating in the Commencement Ceremony.

My address has changed since I petitioned for graduation; who do I contact?

To ensure the correct delivery of your diploma, please send address changes to the FLC Evaluations department at evaluations@flc.losrios.edu.

Review the Student Standards of Conduct

Graduate participants must adhere to the Student Standards of Conduct. For the safety of everyone participating, students who violate these standards, including those found to be in the possession of or under the influence of alcohol or drugs, will not be allowed to participate.

FLC is an Alcohol, Drug, and Smoke-Free Campus

Folsom Lake College is an alcohol, drug, and smoke-free campus. Consumption of, or being under the influence of, drugs or alcohol while on campus is strictly prohibited. In addition, the Student Standards of Conduct prohibit the use, sale, possession, or presence on campus under the influence of any controlled substance. Students who violate this policy can be suspended, expelled, and/or criminally prosecuted.

For the safety of everyone participating, staff will deny entry to anyone who appears intoxicated. Los Rios Police will also be on-site to assist.

Please note that no outside beverages are allowed in the venue. Only unopened water bottles will be permitted.

Guest FAQs

Are tickets required to enter?

What time can guests arrive?

As the event is outside and will take place on our grass track field, we advise guests to dress comfortably and choose footwear accordingly.

Where can I park?

Parking is free on the day of the ceremony - NO permit and/or daily pass parking is needed. However, Los Rios Police will enforce parking violations in red zones and other restricted areas, metered or timed parking, disabled parking, and violations that impede traffic or block access. Parking spaces will be in demand, so guests should arrive early.

For those needing disabled parking, there will be a designated lot next to the FLC Gymnasium building near the Scholar Way entrance - view map. Your vehicle must display a valid disabled permit/placard to park in this lot.
