English Composition Classes by Placement
Path 1: ENGL C1000 or ENGL C1000H Placement
First Semester
Enroll in one of the following:
- ENGL C1000: Academic Reading and Writing1 (3 units)
- ENGL C1000H: Academic Reading and Writing - Honors1 (3 units)
Second Semester
Enroll in one of the following:
- ENGWR 301: College Composition and Literature2 (3 units)
- ENGWR 481: Honors College Composition and Literature2 (3 units)
- ENGL C1001: Critical Thinking and Writing2 (3 units)
- ENGL C1001H: Critical Thinking and Writing - Honors2 (3 units)
- 1 Satisfies local AA/AS and Cal-GETC 1A requirements. Transferable to UC/CSU – speak with a counselor for transfer information.
- 2 Satisfies local AA/AS and Cal-GETC 1B requirements. Transferable to UC/CSU – speak with a counselor for transfer information.
Path 2: ENGL C1000/ENGWR 33 Combo Placement
First Semester
Students take a combination of courses designed to ensure their success. Enroll in both of the following:
- ENGL C1000: Academic Reading and Writing3 (3 units) and
- ENGWR 33: Support for College Composition (2 units).
- Each ENGWR 33 has its own required section of ENGL C1000.
Second Semester
Enroll in one of the following:
- ENGWR 301: College Composition and Literature4 (3 units)
- ENGWR 481: Honors College Composition and Literature4 (3 units)
- ENGL C1001: Critical Thinking and Writing4 (3 units)
- ENGL C1001H: Critical Thinking and Writing - Honors4 (3 units)
- 3 Satisfies local AA/AS and Cal-GETC 1A requirements. Transferable to UC/CSU – speak with a counselor for transfer information.
- 4 Satisfies local AA/AS and Cal-GETC 1B requirements. Transferable to UC/CSU – speak with a counselor for transfer information.
Skill Builder Courses
These are open-access courses that offer fine-tuning of writing and reading skills. Students can enroll in any open sections of these courses. These courses are non-degree applicable and non-transferable.
- ENGWR 39: Basic Writing Skill Development
- ENGWR 46: Individualized Writing Skills
- ENGWR 47: Individualized Spelling Skills
- ENGWR 48: Individualized Vocabulary Skills
- ENGLB 71: Reading and Writing Across the Curriculum and ENGWR 110: College Reading and Writing Skills
