Transfer Bound Students
To get started on transfer-level coursework, it is recommended that you take ENGL C1000 - College Composition. In addition, an honors option, ENGL C1000H - Honors College Composition, is available.
An English writing (ENGWR) corequisite class is required for those students needing additional support:
- ENGWR 33 - Support for College Composition
If you placed into ENGWR 33 - Support for College Composition, you can still complete transfer-level English in one semester; you must take both ENGL C1000 and ENGWR 33 concurrently. The topics for ENGWR 33 are intended to help you develop the skills and understanding necessary for success in ENGL C1000.
How to Enroll
- To enroll in the ENGL C1000/ENWR 33 combo, you must add both the transfer level course and the corresponding support class to your eServices shopping cart.
- Your placement must be met prior to enrolling in the classes (either through the admissions application process or through a prerequisite clearance or challenge). Your placement based on your applications can be found in eServices (click on the Academic Records tile, then select the Placements tab).
- If you are using a class outside of Los Rios to meet the prerequisite, you must plan ahead in order to avoid delays in enrollment (through prerequisite clearance or challenge process).
Skill Builder Courses
For those students who could use additional help with English writing skills, the following courses are open access courses:
- ENGWR 39 - Basic Writing Skill Development
- ENGWR 46 - Individualized Writing Skills
- ENGWR 47 - Individualized Spelling Skills
- ENGWR 48 - Individualized Vocabulary Skills
- ENGLB 71 - Reading and Writing Across the Curriculum
Use Guided Self-Placement
If you have foreign high school transcripts or left high school without graduating, then you are eligible to utilize the Guided Self-Placement process to determine which English and math courses to take. Complete the questions on our Placement Process page to get started.
After completing Guided Self-Placement, your placements will be updated in our enrollment system (eServices) the following day.
