Renewing Library Materials

You may find that you need to use an item a little longer. Here’s how library materials may be renewed.

Item Type Renewal Guidelines
Circulating Books and DVDs Renewals are automatic until the end of the current semester, unless another person has requested the item.
Reserve Textbooks and Materials (Long-term) Items with a 1-week check out period are automatically renewed until the end of the current semester, unless another person has requested the item.

If another person requests an item you have borrowed, renewals will not be allowed and the item must be returned by the due date specified. You will receive an email notification of the due date from the Los Rios Libraries.

My Library Account and Library Notices

Visit My Library Account to see all items currently checked out to you, view any charges, and see your reading history. Check your Los Rios preferred email account for notices about requested items, overdue books, or fees.

Request Books from Los Rios Libraries

You can request circulating books from any Los Rios Library for pickup at the FLC or EDC libraries, or at the contactless lockers at FLC, EDC or RCC. Locate the book in OneSearch and then select the Request button to complete the request. It may take a few days for books to arrive at your preferred pickup location. You may request up to twelve circulating items at one time. Please visit the library or call (916) 608-6613 if you need help placing a request.

Request Books from Other Libraries (Interlibrary Loan)

Students, staff, and faculty may request books from outside the Los Rios Library System for delivery to the FLC or EDC libraries, free of charge. You may check out up to three books at a time from other libraries.

Please visit Interlibrary Loan for more information and to place a request. Visit the library or call (916) 608-6613 for assistance with your request.

Friends of the Library Membership

Residents of the community that are not currently enrolled in a Los Rios course may purchase a Friends of the Library Member Card for $30 per year. FLC alumni and children under 18 can purchase a card for $15 per year. FLC Emeriti Association members may also join the Friends of the Library; the fee is included in the Emeriti Association membership dues. The Friends of the Library card allows anyone in the community to use the library for borrowing books and DVDs. All library guests may use the online library collection and databases while on campus.

Friends of the Library borrowers may:

  • Borrow books from the Main Folsom campus or the El Dorado Center Libraries
  • Borrow up to three books or DVDs at a time

Friends of the Library borrowers may not:

  • Request intercampus or interlibrary loans

Borrowing FAQs

Lost and Damaged Materials

You will be charged a replacement fee for items that are lost, damaged, or never returned to the library. Library staff will assess the current replacement cost of out-of-print materials.

You will be notified by email if an item is overdue. You will receive multiple email notifications before an item is declared lost and fees are assessed. If an overdue item is returned in good condition, no money is owed.

If you have received an overdue notice, it means that other students are interested in using the resources or that the semester has ended. We ask that you be mindful of the Folsom Lake College community and return your library items promptly.

Appealing and Paying Library Fees

We won’t hold you responsible for items lost or damaged by fire, flood or theft when documented by a police or insurance report. Please visit the library or call (916) 608-6613 to report damaged or stolen items and clear your library account.

Fees may be paid in smaller increments if it is a financial burden to pay in full. For more information about paying library fees, please see How can I pay my library fees?

Computers, WiFi, and Printing

WiFi and Computer Access

The Library provides access to LRCCD networked computers, and a secured wireless Internet connection is available for currently enrolled students. Connect your personal device(s) to the LRCCD wireless network using your Los Rios ID and password. Per District policy, all LRCCD computers are subject to monitoring to assure adherence to acceptable use standards.

Members of the public may request temporary access to the Guest wifi. Please see a library staff member for assistance.

Printing

Printing from library computers or using the copier is ten cents per page. Students can use cash, debit, or credit cards to pay for printing or to make copies. A color printer is available in the Welcome & Student Success Center, and the cost is fifty cents per page.

For more information, please visit our Printing FAQs

Study Rooms

Study Rooms

The Library has study rooms available for check out. While everyone is welcome to use the study rooms, students and groups will be prioritized. Study rooms are available for two hours at a time. To check out a study room, please visit the library desk and a staff member will assist you.

Study rooms may be reserved up to one week in advance. If you have made a reservation and no longer need the room, please let us know so that we may offer the study room to other students. We may cancel unclaimed reservations after fifteen minutes so that the study room may be used by other students. Students are responsible for the condition of the study room.

Silent Study Lab

The Library classroom (FL1-35) is available for use as a silent study lab. Computers are available for use on a first-come, first-served basis. Group work, talking, or disruptive behavior are not permitted in the lab. The lab is unavailable during scheduled instructions. Lab hours are posted weekly at the Silent Study Lab entrance.

Courtesy Guidelines

The following guidelines promote a safe, welcoming and accessible academic environment. The Library asks that these guidelines be adhered to out of respect for all library guests, library staff, library materials and spaces.

  • Food and drinks should be kept away from computer workstations, photocopiers and library materials. Messy, greasy, odorous and noisy foods are discouraged.
  • Cell phones should be set to vibrate or silent. Please take phone conversations outside of the library so as not to disturb other guests.
  • Headphones are acceptable, as long as their volume does not disturb other library guests.

Please visit Student Rights & Responsibilities for more information about appropriate conduct at Folsom Lake College.
