The FLC Utility and Rental Assistance Program provides financial assistance to eligible students who need help with utility and rental expenses. Assistance may be used toward gas, electricity, water, wastewater (sewer), or rent.
Eligibility Requirements
Students must meet all of the following requirements.
- Be currently enrolled in a minimum of six (6) units or (2) classes within the Los Rios Community College District (LRCCD).
- Have Folsom Lake College (FLC) listed as their financial aid home school.
- Be in good academic standing. Students who are not currently in good standing may still be considered if they can provide a valid reason for their status and a documented plan for returning to good standing.
- Receive no more than one (1) assistance award per academic year, with a maximum award of $500
Required Documentation
To apply, students must provide documentation showing that the payment is past due or at risk of disconnection/late payment.
Acceptable documentation includes:
- A past-due utility bill or shutoff notice from the utility company; and/or
- A past-due or late rent notice from the landlord.
For rental assistance, the documentation must include the landlord's contact information.
Important: The utility bill or rental notice must be in the student's name. No exceptions.
Payment & Follow-Up Requirements
Assistance checks will be issued directly to the student. Students are responsible for using the funds for the approved utility or rental expense
After receiving assistance, students must provide proof of payment to the utility company or landlord to the FLC Falcon Cares Student Support Specialist or Supervisor.
- Failure to provide proof of payment may result in the student being ineligible for future assistance through this program.
Financial Aid Reporting
- Utility and rental assistance are considered a financial aid resource. As a result, Falcon Cares is required to report assistance payments to the FLC Financial Aid Department. These payments may be included when determining a student's overall financial aid package and could affect eligibility for other financial aid.
Check Disbursement
- Checks will be issued by the Business Services Office (BSO) directly to the awarded student.
