Audition for "The False Magnate" on Feb. 2
January 11, 2021
The Falcon's Eye Theatre at Folsom Lake College calls for FLC students and actors from the community to virtually audition for its spring production of The False Magnate on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 from 6:30 to 9:30pm via Zoom. All skill levels encouraged to audition.
About the Production
This is an adaptation of a classic Commedia Dell’Arte sketch for a virtual online performance. A troupe of actors attempt to perform a condensed version of The False Magnate, a (fictional) classic play. It’s the age-old story of two lovers and a miserly father (Pantalone) who refuses to let them get married since he wants his child to be married to a true magnate, a rich person, very relatable. In order to keep it interesting, they decide to shorten a 2-hour epic into 12 minutes. The show becomes an over-the-top soap opera full of crazy antics and goofball zaniness performed in mask. Screwball zaniness ensues at a fast pace crashing into a very happy ending. This show will have lots of room for improv (no experience needed).
Open monologue auditions will be conducted online via Zoom on Tuesday, February 2 from 6:30 to 9:30pm. Sign-up for an audition time. You will then be contacted to confirm your audition in the days leading up to auditions.
Note: All auditioners will need to attend the open monologue session, regardless of whether they have performed in a Falcon's Eye production in the past.
In order to audition via Zoom, you will need reliable access to high speed internet, and a computer/tablet/phone that is capable of running Zoom (you can test your device at: https://zoom.us/test). Your device will also need a functioning camera and microphone.
What to Prepare
You MUST prepare a contemporary comedic monologue that is approximately 60 seconds long. This monologue should best portray the actor's strengths. The monologue must be memorized and will be performed online via Zoom.
It is requested that auditioners email a full-sized photo-headshot and resume of acting experience, if available, prior to the audition to: email@example.com, but this is not required.
At least three days before the audition date, we will email you information about how the auditions will work on Zoom and a Zoom meeting link.
Actors who are cast in one of the online productions will need a relatively new computer with Google Chrome browser installed, access to reliable high speed internet, and reliable access to a secure private location to work remotely that is at least 12 feet square. Other gear and equipment for the online performance will be provided by Falcon's Eye.
Callback auditions will be entirely online via Zoom. They will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2021 by invitation only. Your callback time could be anytime between 6:30 to 9:30pm. Callback actors will be coached in some physical comedy improv.
