The 2025 Folsom Lake College Men of Color Summit will educate, empower, and motivate students to strive for excellence in education. Throughout the day, students, faculty, staff, and community members will engage in discussions encompassing the needs and issues that men of Color specifically face, and how those issues intersect with their academic and professional careers.
Folsom Lake College has partnered with over ten local high schools to increase the academic and social success of men of Color.
The Summit invites all students to participate, however, it is intentionally designed to help men of Color gain a stronger sense of self as well as to connect with peers, faculty, staff, and the larger Folsom Lake College community.

Summit Goals
- Provide opportunities for participants to learn from and engage with professional leaders in the community.
- Provide networking opportunities for participants to learn from each other by participating in workshops and small group discussions.
- Help participants gain a greater sense of self. Attending the educational sessions offered will help them to contextualize their identity socially, academically, historically, and politically.

Welcome by Dr. Art Pimentel, Folsom Lake College President, Dr. Calvin Monroe, Dean of Student Services, and Lisa Hausmann, CEO of Mercy Hospital of Folsom, Staff Introductions and Ice Breaker.

*Students can choose any session they are interested in. We encourage students who wish to enroll at FLC or Dual Enrollment to attend the breakout session to receive their FLC ID card at 1:00 pm.
- Career Pathways: (Dr. Chris Morris)
Students will learn about various career paths and certificates that do not require transfer or a BA degree. Did you know that Folsom Lake College has a world-class recording studio on campus? In this session, you can learn about FLC's Commercial Music degree and opportunities for internships in the exciting field of Music Production.
Location: Aspen Hall FL1-35 - Ethnic Studies Class Visit:
Introduction to Native American Studies, by Professor Tami Cheshire. Students will be able to visit a live college classroom and hear students present on topics like: Why it's important for BIPOC students to go to college and graduate.
Location: Aspen Hall FL1-205 (upstairs) - Introduction to the Innovation Center:
Explore the FLC Innovation Center, a creative hub where art meets technology. From laser cutters to 3D printers, drones, and our recording studio, our space nurtures innovation across all disciplines. Through creating exciting projects and developing crucial skills, come see how you can be part of the community.
Location: Innovation Center- Aspen Hall FL1-130 - Music Department Class Visit: (Philip Angove)
Students will walk to Harris Center to visit the music class, tinker with instruments, and engage with the recording studio.
Location: Harris Center for the Arts - What is Dual Enrollment?: (Janiene Langford, Sarah Aldea)
Students will hear from a Dual Enrollment specialist about the benefits of Dual Enrollment.
Location: Aspen Hall FL1-109 - Carrying a Lot? Let’s Unpack That: (Success Coaches)
To help students reflect on the emotional, academic, and social burdens they carry, recognize their inner strengths, and understand that support is available through Folsom Lake College Success Coaches. This session promotes self-awareness, vulnerability, and empowerment through guided reflection and discussion.
Location: Welcome and Student Success Center in Aspen Hall/FL1 (computer lab)

Athletics Tour & Panel - Success Coach: BreAnna Margadonna
Students will tour FLC's state-of-the-art athletic facilities and hear from a panel of athletes. Students can ask questions about how to get involved with athletics and learn about NCAA requirements.
