Innovation Center Joins Prestigious National Programs
September 11, 2020
FLC’s Innovation Center continues to be recognized as a leader in the Maker movement and was recently accepted into two prestigious national programs.
“Making Spaces: Expanding Maker Education Across the Nation” aims to sustainably integrate Making into educational institutions and build a national resource network. As a member of the program’s new cohort, FLC’s makerspace will lead a regional partnership with local schools, libraries, community organizations, and other educational institutions to help these new Maker sites launch and maintain programs.
In addition, the Innovation Center has been chosen as a placement location for the “Makers + Mentors Network: Maker Fellows” program that will connect FLC students with underrepresented and underserved youth to serve as mentors for Maker-centered learning experiences that will help K-12 students build the academic and social skills key to their success in school, postsecondary enrollment, and workforce placement.
These unique opportunities will allow the Innovation Center to continue and expand its efforts to bring “Making” deeper into the community that we serve.
