Update: August 26, 2021

We wanted to provide an update on the Caldor Fire, which continues to displace nearly 25,000 El Dorado County residents. As of this morning, over 136,000 acres have been burned with only 12% containment. The fire has destroyed at least 465 homes, 11 businesses, and 167 minor structures, though damage assessment is still in progress. About 17,500 more structures are considered at risk.

Many Folsom Lake College students, faculty, and staff are still evacuated from their homes. We ask that you extend grace and compassion to your fellow Falcons that are continuing to live in a state of great stress and upheaval.

EDC On-Ground Classes & Student Support Services

As previously announced, all El Dorado Center (EDC) on-ground classes are online for this week. Based on the forecasted air quality for EDC, these classes will either remain online or be moved to the Main Folsom campus for the next two weeks (through September 10). All faculty of EDC on-ground classes have been notified regarding the plan for their specific class(es) and are sharing this information with their students by the end of the day today.

All EDC student support services will also be moved online through the end of next week (through September 3). Students may access remote student support services or those available in-person by appointment only on the Main Folsom campus.

Any students or employees who have been impacted by the Caldor Fire and need an on-campus space for internet connectivity or a device, please contact Mari Peshon at

FLC's El Dorado Center (EDC) and some members of our college community who live in El Dorado County have been greatly impacted by the Caldor Fire, including being subject to mandatory or voluntary evacuations and air quality issues.

Recognizing these challenges, we have moved the 1st week of on-ground instruction for all Fall 2021 El Dorado Center classes to online. Note: This only applies to EDC on-ground classes; on-ground classes at the Main Folsom campus and Rancho Cordova Center will continue as scheduled.

Available Resources

During this time, EDC students and employees can access the Main Folsom campus for a variety of services, including computer lab, internet, and Wi-Fi access; charging stations; library resources; and assistance with Canvas:

Local Assistance Center

In addition, to serve our greater college community, the El Dorado Center will serve as a Local Assistance Center for Caldor Fire Recovery starting Monday, August 23. The Center, set up and staffed by the California Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) and El Dorado County Office of Emergency Services in EDC's Fitness Center, will be a one-stop-shop for residents who have been impacted by the fire to connect with critical government services, replace lost or destroyed vital documents (ID, financial information, etc.), and get connected with support services.
