Math and Statistics Course Sequence

Business, Economics, and Management Pathway

Choose one of the following options:

• MATH 341: Calculus for Business and Economics¹ (4 units) and MATHS 46: Support for Calculus for Business and Economics² (3 units) – must be taken concurrently
• MATH 341: Calculus for Business and Economics¹ (4 units)

• ¹ AA/AS-applicable and is transferable to CSU/UC. Speak with a counselor for transfer information.
• ² Support course may be required based on placement results.

Elementary Education Pathway

Enroll in the following:

• MATH 310: Mathematical Discovery³ (3 units)

• ³ AA/AS-applicable and is transferable to CSU/UC. Speak with a counselor for transfer information.

Liberal Arts Pathway

Choose one of the following options:

• Option 1 – choose one of the following:
  • MATH 300: Introduction to Mathematical Ideas⁴ (3 units) and MATHS 95: Support for Introduction to Mathematical Ideas⁵ (2 units) – must be taken concurrently
  • MATH 300: Introduction to Mathematical Ideas⁴ (3 units)
• Option 2 (not for majors that require Calculus) – choose one of the following:
  • MATH 333: College Algebra for Liberal Arts (3 units) and MATHS 33: Support of College Algebra for Liberal Arts⁵ (2 units)
  • MATH 333: College Algebra for Liberal Arts (3 units)

Statistics Pathway

Choose one of the following options:

• Option 1 – choose one of the following:
  • STAT C1000: Introduction to Statistics⁶ (4 units) and STAT 10: Support for Introduction to Probability and Statistics⁷ (2 units) – must be taken concurrently
  • STAT C1000: Introduction to Statistics⁶ (4 units)
• Option 2 – choose one of the following:
  • PSYC 330: Introductory Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences⁶ (3 units) and PSYC 10: Support for Introductory Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences⁷ (2 units) – must be taken concurrently
  • PSYC 330: Introductory Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences⁶ (3 units)

STEM Pathway

STEM 1 Level

This option is for students who have not passed Intermediate Algebra, Integrated Math 3 (IM3), or the equivalent with a "C-" or better. You may take Calculus with support or up to two (2) courses before Calculus.

• You may choose to take two preparatory courses before Calculus:
  • Recommended
    • MATH 385 Calculus Preparation for STEM (4 units) followed by Math 375 Pre-Calculus (6 units)
    • Note: Math 385 may be offered with corequisite support MATHS 85 Support for Calculus Preparation for STEM (2 units)
    • Note: Math 375 may be offered with corequisite support MATHS 75 Support for Pre-Calculus (3 units)  
  • The other two course option would be to take MATH 372 and MATH 373 in either order:
    • MATH 372: College Algebra for Calculus⁸ (4 units)
    • MATH 372: College Algebra for Calculus⁸ (4 units) and MATHS 70: Support for College Algebra for Calculus⁹ (3 units) – must be taken concurrently
    • MATH 373: Trigonometry for Calculus⁸ (4 units)
    • MATH 373: Trigonometry for Calculus⁸ (4 units) and MATHS 73: Support for Trigonometry for Calculus⁹ (2 units) – must be taken concurrently
  • Then:
    • MATH 400: Calculus I¹⁰ (5 units)and MATHS 60: Support for Calculus I⁹ (3 units) – must be taken concurrently
• If you choose to take one prep course before Calculus, see the STEM 3 Level option:
  • Then:
    • MATH 400: Calculus I¹⁰ (5 units) and MATHS 60: Support for Calculus I⁹ (3 units) – must be taken concurrently
• If you choose to go straight to Calculus:
  • MATH 400: Calculus I¹⁰ (5 units) and MATHS 60: Support for Calculus I⁹ (3 units) – must be taken concurrently

STEM 3 Level

This option is for students who have passed Intermediate Algebra, Integrated Math 3 (IM3), or the equivalent with a "C-" or better. You may take Calculus with support or one (1) course before Calculus.

• If you choose to take one prep course before Calculus:
  • Choose one of the following options:
    • MATH 375: Pre-Calculus⁸ (6 units)
    • MATH 375: Pre-Calculus⁸ (6 units) and MATHS 75: Support for Pre-Calculus (2 units) – must be taken concurrently
    • MATH 385: Calculus Preparation for STEM (4 units)
    • MATH 385: Calculus Preparation for STEM (4 units) and MATHS 85: Support for Calculus Preparation for STEM (2 units) – must be taken concurrently
  • Then:
    • MATH 400: Calculus I¹⁰ (5 units)and MATHS 60: Support for Calculus I⁹ (3 units) – must be taken concurrently
• If you choose to go straight to Calculus:
  • MATH 400: Calculus I¹⁰ (5 units)and MATHS 60: Support for Calculus I⁹ (3 units) – must be taken concurrently

STEM 5 Level

This option is for students who have passed Pre-Calculus, Integrated Math 4 (IM4), Trigonometry, or the equivalent with a "C-" or better. Choose one of the following options:

• MATH 400: Calculus I¹⁰ (5 units)
• MATH 400: Calculus I¹⁰ (5 units)and MATHS 60: Support for Calculus I⁹ (3 units) – must be taken concurrently

Sequence of Final Four Courses in Calculus Pathway

1. MATH 401: Analytic Geometry and Calculus II¹⁰ (5 units)
2. MATH 402: Analytic Geometry and Calculus III¹⁰ (5 units)
3. MATH 410: Intro to Linear Algebra¹⁰ (3 units)
4. MATH 420: Differential Equations¹⁰ (4 units)
