In addition, each individual prerequisite course must be passed with a letter grade "C" or better.Commencing Summer 2022 and beyond, science prerequisite courses (bolded above) necessitate an in-person, on-ground laboratory component, while the lecture portion of these courses may be conducted online. During the COVID-19 campus closures, the college temporarily permitted online science labs under an approved waiver. It's important to note that this waiver expired in May 2022.
Effective immediately, all science pre-requisites must be completed at the time of application. Up to two (2) non-science prerequisites can be in-progress during the application period. The in-progress courses must conclude prior to the start of the MLT program. A second counseling appointment must also be obtained to ensure compliance with the minimum GPA requirements.
- In order to graduate with an A.S. in Medical Laboratory Technology, students must complete all MLT course work with a letter grade “C” or better and meet all Folsom Lake College Graduation Requirements, including FLC Reading Graduation Competency. For more information, please view the FLC catalog and/or make an appointment with Counseling Services.
- Students who have attended college outside the United States and who wish to have a degree or courses considered as meeting MLT Program prerequisites must have transcripts evaluated by a NACES-approved independent agency and must provide course descriptions (from the semester in which the courses were completed). Such cases will be evaluated on an individual basis. For more information on the evaluation of foreign transcripts please contact Counseling Services at (916) 608-6510.
- Applicants need not hold a California Phlebotomy Technician (CPT-1) certificate to apply to the MLT program at FLC. However, applicants who maintain their current CPT-1 status throughout the program will not be required to take MLT courses METEC 311 and MEDTEC 312. Those who do not currently possess a phlebotomy certificate will receive training in phlebotomy as required for MLT licensure; however will not be eligible to apply for a standalone CPT-1 certificate.
- All applicants are required to have a Pre-Application meeting with Counseling Services for prerequisite evaluation.
