Commonly Used Federal Websites: A variety of full text government documents ranging from Area Handbook Series - Country Studies, the Budget of the United States, the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance, Vital and Health Statistics Series Reports. This page is maintained by John Montre, government documents librarian at the Pius XII Memorial Library, Saint Louis University.

Country Area Handbooks: The Country Studies Series published by the Federal Research Division of the Library of Congress contains the online versions of previously published books. This series does not cover all the countries of the world.  At present, 102 countries and regions are covered.

Directory of Official State, County and City Governments: "The State and Local Government on the Net Directory provides convenient one-stop access to the websites of thousands of state agencies and city and county governments. Only pages that are controlled and managed by state and local government agencies are included." Use the topics link to access quick lists of the websites for all state governments in the United States.

Documents in the News: This site identifies governmental issues in the news and offers web sources for additional information. The current events research is provided by the University of Michigan. Use this site for Hot Topics in Political Science. Be sure to use the archive links from 2003 through current year for additional topics.

Electronic List of Classes: "The database is a finding aid designed to help individuals find government information on the web. Included are Federal Documents resources that are or were once in the Superintendent of Documents' "List of Classes".

Federal Statistics: Fedstats is a gateway to Statistics from over 100 U.S. Federal Agencies listed alphabetically by topic.

FedWorld: A mega gateway to United States Government information maintained by the National Technical Information Service. Links to: Science and Technology portals; Government Reports published since 1990 and full-text Supreme Court decisions from 1937-1975.

Government Periodicals: The University of Louisville Library has created a journal finder/subject index to all the major government periodicals published by the U.S. Government. The alphabetical list of links provides access to the full text version of each periodical available online.

Legislative Histories: A complete listing of all legislative history in the United States Congress. This site also includes bills, committee hearings, debates, congressional records, floor votes, rules/regulations, lobbying groups, congressional history. Very informative site.

Occupational Outlook Quarterly: "OOQ provides practical information on jobs and careers. Articles are written in straightforward, non-technical language and cover a wide variety of career and work-related topics such as new and emerging occupations, training opportunities, salary trends, and results of new studies from the Bureau of Labor Statistics."

Official U.S. Government Portal: The U.S. Governments' Official Web Portal to all U.S. Federal Government information as a one stop, easy access resource tool for services, transactions, and forms from Federal, State, and Local governments.

Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance: "The online Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance provides access to a database of all Federal programs available to State and local governments." Instructions are available on the site to find out how to apply for federal grants including the writing of grant proposals.

Census Bureau, United States: Gateway to Census 2000 and Census 1930; excellent links to minority statistics and some genealogy information. This site also gives the latest economic indicators.

A Century of Lawmaking For a New Nation: The Library of Congress has provided online acccess to U.S. Congressional documents and debates, including: Journals of the continental congress, letters of delegates to congress, Elliot's debates, Farrand's records, bills and resolutions, statutes at large, american state papers, U.S. serial set.

ChildStats: "This website offers easy access to federal and state statistics and reports on children and their families, including: population and family characteristics, economic security, health, behavior and social environment, and education. Reports of the Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family Statistics include America's Children: Key National Indicators of Well-Being, the annual Federal monitoring report on the status of the Nation's children, and Counting Couples."

Government Information Online: Government Information Online (GIO) is a national pilot project that will establish a viable model for online cooperative virtual reference and information service that specializes in answering questions about government information. Libraries contributing their time and expertise to the project (over thirty institutions across the United States) represent public libraries, academic institutions, as well as state library and archive departments.

National Archives and Records Administration: This website is sponsored by the Office of the Federal Register, National Archives and Records Administration on the United States Government Printing Office website. Search the U.S. Government Manual from 1995 to the current issue. Browse the Federal Register by topic and the code of Federal Regulations by keyword, plus database access to the Public Papers of the Presidents of the U.S. in full text.

Statistical Abstract of the United States: View the online full-text version of The National Data Book. This source "contains a collection of statistics on social and economic conditions in the United States. Selected international data are also included.
