    This list of links provides access to full-text books online. For additional links select the Literature link. Many other full-text resources are available online by selecting Digital Libraries or Government Documents.


    digital books "Digital Book Index provides links to more than 130,000 title records from more than 1800 commercial and non-commercial publishers, universities, and various private sites. About 90,000 of these books, texts, and documents are available free, while many others are available at very modest cost."
    google books "Book Search works just like web search. When Google Book Search finds a book whose content contains a match for the search terms, they will link to it in the results. Clicking on a book result, displays everything from a few short excerpts to the entire book, depending on a few different factors."


    Alex Catalogue of Electronic Texts: A collection of public domain documents from American and English literature as well as Western philosophy. Search the digital collection by title or keyword to locate the literary work in full text. The complete texts of all the items in the Alex Catalogue are available by download only. This search engine functions as a concordance to the electronic books retrieveable from this website. Moreover, you can search the content of multiple documents simultaneously. For example, you can first locate all the documents in the collection authored by Mark Twain. Next, you can search selected documents for something like slav* (which includes slave, slaves, slavery, etc.) to draw out themes across texts. This site is maintained by Librarian, Eric Morgan of Infomotions, Inc.

     

    Bartleby: Great Books Online: Access to free full-text reference books including the Columbia Encyclopedia, American Heritage Dictionary, Gray's Anatomy and Elements of Style. Also includes full-text poetry anthologies; out-of-print fiction and non-fiction titles.

     

    Bibliomania: A free online source for Literature with hundreds of searchable full-text classics. Major works in American Literature are listed chronologically. In addition, this database provides major full-text Reference works.

     

    Electronic Book Collections: An index to electronic book links prepared by the librarians at University of Texas at Arlington.

     

    English Server:This Database Server offers nearly 50 topical websites plus Online Book Collections available in full-text and free-of-charge. Collection topics range from Literature and History to Science and Technology. Hosted at the Iowa State University.

     

    Episteme Links: This site's database has some 19,000 links to philosophy-related resources online, and is widely used by philosophy professors and students at all levels, as well as those in the broader philosophical community. There is no charge to use the site, nor does it require user registration of any kind. Designed and maintained by book editor and author Thomas Ryan Stone.

     

    Great Books -Texts and Fully Searchable Concordances: Online Full-Text e-copies of classic literature.

     

    Great Books and Classics: A gateway to the online full-text versions of the Great Books series including the most recent updates and additions. The links are organized by author in chronological order.

     

    Gutenberg Project: This online collection of free books are searchable by author or title can be read in full-text online. Most of the books available are in the public domain in the United States and are therefore free of copyright restrictions.

     

    Gutenberg Project, Australia: This site, like Project Gutenberg, generally takes titles in the public domain and puts them on the Web in plain text and HTML format. All the major sections in this project relate to free e-books by Australian writers or about Australia.

     

    Internet Archive: Text Archive: "The Open-Access Text Archive, offers permanent access for researchers, historians, and scholars to historical collections that exist in digital format, includes texts, audio, moving images, and software." This archive serves as an index to sub-collections on the internet available in e-format: American, Canadian, and Children's libraries, and selected research institutions.

     

    Internet Public Library - IPL: "The Internet Public Library is hosted by the University of Michigan and edited by volunteer librarians. It has extensive subject categories with well-chosen and well-annotated sites."

     

    Logos Library: This site houses a powerful context search facility with a massive database (currently over 707 million words) containing multilingual novels, technical literature and translated texts. Hits are highlighted in context windows that can be expanded up or down. To go to the source web pages (novels, etc.) click on the title - to run a dictionary search click on the highlighted word or phrase.

     

    MANYBOOKS.net: MANYBOOKS.NET offers an online library of FREE ebooks. Many of the etexts are from the November, 2003 Project Gutenberg DVD, which contains the entire Project Gutenberg archives except for the Human Genome Project and audio eBooks, due to size limitations, and the Project Gutenberg of Australia eBooks, due to copyright. As of July 2004 most current PG texts are available here, usuallly within the week of release.

     

    National Academy Press: "Read more than 3,000 books online FREE! More than 900 PDFs now available for sale. The goal of the NPA is to publish the reports issued by the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Medicine, and the National Research Council, all operating under a charter granted by the Congress of the United States. NAP publishes over 200 books a year on a wide range of topics in science, engineering, and health, capturing the most authoritative views on important issues in science and health policy."

     

    National Archives and Records Administration: "The Archival Research Catalog (ARC) online catalog of NARA's nationwide holdings in the Washington, DC area, Regional Archives and Presidential Libraries. ARC allows you to perform a keyword, digitized image and location search. ARC's advanced functionalities also allow you to search by organization, person, or topic."

     

    Online Texts Collection: The Internet Public Library Online Texts Collection contains over 20,000 full-text titles that can be browsed by author, title, or by the Dewey Decimal Classification. The text is available for online viewing.

     

    Penn Digital Library: This site serves as a guide to online books. Use the links on this site to browse free books on the internet.

     

    Scholarly Electronic Publishing Bibliography: "SEPB presents selected English-language articles, books, and other printed and electronic sources that are useful in understanding scholarly electronic publishing efforts on the Internet. Most sources have been published between 1990 and the present; however, a limited number of key sources published prior to 1990 are also included. Where possible, links are provided to sources that are freely available on the Internet."

     

    Universal Library: Carnegie Mellon University has digitally preserved literary, artistic, and scientific works, and has made them available without charge in ebook format.
