This list of links provides access to full-text books online. For additional links select the Literature link. Many other full-text resources are available online by selecting Digital Libraries or Government Documents.
"Digital Book Index provides links to more than 130,000 title records from more than 1800 commercial and non-commercial publishers, universities, and various private sites. About 90,000 of these books, texts, and documents are available free, while many others are available at very modest cost."
"Book Search works just like web search. When Google Book Search finds a book whose content contains a match for the search terms, they will link to it in the results. Clicking on a book result, displays everything from a few short excerpts to the entire book, depending on a few different factors."

Alex Catalogue of Electronic Texts: A collection of public domain documents from American and English literature as well as Western philosophy. Search the digital collection by title or keyword to locate the literary work in full text. The complete texts of all the items in the Alex Catalogue are available by download only. This search engine functions as a concordance to the electronic books retrieveable from this website. Moreover, you can search the content of multiple documents simultaneously. For example, you can first locate all the documents in the collection authored by Mark Twain. Next, you can search selected documents for something like slav* (which includes slave, slaves, slavery, etc.) to draw out themes across texts. This site is maintained by Librarian, Eric Morgan of Infomotions, Inc.

Bartleby: Great Books Online: Access to free full-text reference books including the Columbia Encyclopedia, American Heritage Dictionary, Gray's Anatomy and Elements of Style. Also includes full-text poetry anthologies; out-of-print fiction and non-fiction titles.

Bibliomania: A free online source for Literature with hundreds of searchable full-text classics. Major works in American Literature are listed chronologically. In addition, this database provides major full-text Reference works.

ebrary: "Provides a cost-effective, efficient way for libraries and other organizations to give users online access to authoritative information and unique research capabilities, while providing new sales and marketing opportunities for publishers and content providers."

Electronic Book Collections: An index to electronic book links prepared by the librarians at University of Texas at Arlington.

Google Scholar: "Google Scholar enables you to search specifically for scholarly literature, including peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts and technical reports from all broad areas of research. Use Google Scholar to find articles from a wide variety of academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories and universities, as well as scholarly articles available across the Web."

Great Books -Texts and Fully Searchable Concordances: Online Full-Text e-copies of classic literature.

Great Books and Classics: A gateway to the online full-text versions of the Great Books series including the most recent updates and additions. The links are organized by author in chronological order.

Harrold's Education Links: A search engine to locate by keyword, free, full-text eBooks in World Literature.

Knowledgerush: Book Directory: A worldwide selection of online literary works from classic out-of-copyright books listed by title or author and searchable through Google.

IDRC Books Online: IDRC Books is the publishing arm of Canada's International Development Research Centre. Many of the online books are free in full-text; other in-print books are available for purchase. The title selection of IRDC is supported research on global and regional issues related to sustainable and equitable development.

Internet Archive: Text Archive: "The Internet Archive, offering permanent access for researchers, historians, and scholars to historical collections that exist in digital format, includes texts, audio, moving images, and software as well as archived web pages in its collections."

Literary Gothic: "The Literary Gothic is a Web guide to all things concerned with literary Gothicism, which includes ghost stories, "classic" Gothic novels and Gothic fiction (1764-1820), and related pre- and post-Gothic and supernaturalist literature written prior to the mid-C20. Its target audience is all students and fans of the Gothic, regardless of age, academic level, profession, or just about anything else."

MANYBOOKS.net: MANYBOOKS.NET offers an online library of FREE ebooks. Many of the etexts are from the November, 2003 Project Gutenberg DVD, which contains the entire Project Gutenberg archives except for the Human Genome Project and audio eBooks, due to size limitations, and the Project Gutenberg of Australia eBooks, due to copyright. As of July 2004 most current PG texts are available here, usuallly within the week of release.

On-Line Books: This is one of the largest websites for free full-text books online. It has over 20,000 titles including special categories and archives.

Online Texts Collection: The Internet Public Library Online Texts Collection contains over 20,000 full-text titles that can be browsed by author, title, or by the Dewey Decimal Classification. The text is available for online viewing.

Open eBook: "The Open eBook Forum (OeBF) is an international trade and standards organization. Their members consist of hardware and software companies, publishers, authors, users of electronic books, and related organizations whose common goals are to establish specifications and standards for electronic publishing. The Forum’s work will foster the development of applications and products that will benefit creators of content, makers of reading systems and, most importantly, consumers."

Open Book Project: "A project aimed at the educational community and seeks to encourage and coordinate collaboration among students and teachers for the development of high quality, freely distributable textbooks and educational materials on a wide range of topics."

Penn Digital Library: This site serves as a guide to online books. Use the links on this site to browse free books on the internet.

Project Gutenberg: Contains free classics in plain text format.

Scholarly Electronic Publishing Bibliography: "SEPB presents selected English-language articles, books, and other printed and electronic sources that are useful in understanding scholarly electronic publishing efforts on the Internet. Most sources have been published between 1990 and the present; however, a limited number of key sources published prior to 1990 are also included. Where possible, links are provided to sources that are freely available on the Internet."

Universal Library: Carnegie Mellon University has digitally preserved literary, artistic, and scientific works, and has made them available without charge in ebook format.
