CERN
- European Organization for Nuclear Research: CERN is the world's
largest particle physics centre, which explores what matter is
made of, and what forces hold it together. It is also the birthplace
of the World
Wide Web.
Einstein, Albert Online:
Use this site, maintained by S. Morgan Friedman, to locate many links
to Albert Einstein resources.
Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory:
Use the "for physicists" link to observe active experiments
and projects now underway at the laboratory.
Feynman, Richard P.
Online: A good list of links on this famous physicist by Bill
Beaty.
Einstein Archives:
"The Einstein Archives Online Website provides the first online access to Albert Einstein's scientific and non-scientific manuscripts held by the Albert Einstein Archives at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and to an extensive Archival Database, constituting the material record of one of the most influential intellects in the modern era. The site allows viewing and browsing of approx. 3,000 high-quality digitized images of Einstein's writings, available for viewing in two sizes: a standard resolution image, as well as a high-resolution image for closer inspection. This digitization of more than 900 documents written by Einstein was produced by the Jewish National & University Library's Digitization Project and was made possible by generous grants of David and Fela Shapell."
Hawking, Stephen:
Official site of Professor Stephen W. Hawking, including a brief
biography and full-text access to selected lectures. Professor Hawking
is available by e-mail. This site also provides future lecture dates.
Hypertextbook:
A free online physics text book provided by
Glenn Elert, professor at Midwood High School at Brooklyn College, NY. He acts as the editor of the Physics Factbook, a large collection of essays written by high-school students as an exercise in library research methods (in a scientific context)
Internet Plasma Physics Education
Experience: "This site contains Interactive Plasma Physics
Topics, ranging from electricity, magnetism, energy, and fusion.
Please visit the "Virtual Tokamak" and our "Virtual
Magnetic Stability Module" to learn about Plasma and Fusion
Containment." This interactive science site
is supported by the Science Education Department, Princeton Plasma
Physics Laboratory."
Microcosm: "Microcosm
takes you into the hidden corners of the universe. On the site of
the world's largest particle physics laboratory, CERN, the exhibition
has models, videos, computer games and original pieces of equipment
- something
Newton Project: This site is dedicated to providing a full representation of Newton's writing producing the "first ever comprehensive catalogue of Newton's non-'scientific' papers and has placed online over 50 per cent of the two and a half million words he devoted to the subject of theology, as well as a large selection of his notebooks and scientific papers. At the beginning of 2004, a closely linked sister project in the US received funding to begin similar work on the alchemical papers."
NIST Physics Laboratory: "The
Physics Laboratory is one of the major operating units of the National
Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Its mission is to support
United States industry by providing measurement services and research
for electronic, optical, and radiation technologies. The Laboratory
pursues directed research in the physical science; develops new physical
standards, measurement methods, and data; conducts an aggressive
dissemination program; and collaborates with industry to commercialize
inventions and discoveries."
NIST
Reference on Constants, Units, and Uncertainty: "CODATA
internationally recommended values of the Fundamental Physical
Constants."
The contents of this site have been prepared by Barry N. Taylor of the Data Center and Peter J. Mohr of the Physics Laboratory's Atomic Physics Division of the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
Open Access e-Journals: ArXiv is an open access, full-text e-print service in the fields of physics, mathematics, non-linear science, computer science, quantitative biology and statistics. AarXiv is owned, operated and funded by Cornell University, and also partially funded by the National Science Foundation.
Particle
Adventure: "The Particle Data Group of Lawrence
Berkeley National Laboratory presents an interactive tour
of quarks, neutrinos, antimatter, extra dimensions,
dark matter, accelerators and particle detectors
for everyone."
Physics
Central: This is a website for
students and teachers designed to explain how physics is part of our world and provides answers to questions on how things work, daily updates on physics in the news, research, and web resources.
Physics
2000: An interactive site, by the University
of Colorado Boulder, using Applet Thumbnails "to
learn visually and conceptually about 20th
Century science and high-tech devices."
Physicsworld:
This is a free service provided
by the Institute
of Physics. It features regular
news, jobs, resources, enhanced highlights
of Physics World magazine, events,
free alerts, a buyer's guide, products & press,
and advertising opportunities for
businesses.
Space Physics Research Group:
"SPRG conducts experimental research in space plasma physics on a variety of different spacecraft covering the earth's magnetosphere, auroral zone, tail region, the interplanetary solar wind, and in the near-space environments of other planets."
Stanford
Linear Accelerator Center: "SLAC
is one of the world ’s leading
research laboratories. Established
in 1962, it is located at Stanford
University in Menlo Park, CA.
Our mission is to design, construct
and operate state-of-the-art electron
accelerators and related experimental
facilities for use in high-energy
physics and synchrotron radiation
research."
